Special Collections

Indiana University Center for Cultural Resources

The is a collection of resource kits, each organized to teach a core of 12 universal themes on unity and diversity. Many of the kits have an international focus on a particular geographic region or individual country; others focus on a particular time period or ethnic culture. The kits are available for checkout after receiving a brief orientation and borrower's card. For more information on orientations or reserving a kit, please e-mail ccr@iu.edu.

911±¬ÁÏÍø Archives

As the official repository of 911±¬ÁÏÍø, the Library houses a variety of official and historical documents and records, including Bulletins, reports, manuals, photographs, and The Horizon, the 911±¬ÁÏÍø student newspaper. For access to the physical archives, please contact Melanie Hughes by email at mehughes@iu.edu or by phone at (812) 941-2145.

provides a permanent, online archive for the intellectual output of faculty, students, and staff on the IU Southeast campus. It ensures that IU Southeast research is freely available now and preserved for the future. Current collections include presentations and programs from previous IU Southeast Student Conferences and a book published by Elizabeth Gritter, a history faculty member.

 provides access to the archives of websites and social media created by the IU Southeast community since May 2021.

Ars Femina Archives

The consists of musical scores by women, composed between 1500 and 1800. This collection, assembled by the Ars Femina ensemble, 911±¬ÁÏÍø's ensemble in residence, will eventually include nearly 3,000 scores in print and microform. It documents the important but under-recognized contributions women have made to the development of musical style.

William L. Simon Sheet Music Collection

The William L. Simon Sheet Music Collection consists of 19,000 pieces of sheet music published between the mid-19th century and the end of the 20th century. This collection of American popular songs includes first editions by Stephen Foster, signed editions by prominent songwriters and performers of the 20th century, movie and show music, ragtime, blues, and jazz, sheet music from various animated cartoon features, and wartime music from the Civil War through the Vietnam War. It also includes songs about news events (the Titanic disaster, the flights of Lindbergh and Amelia Earhart), transportation, temperance, and a host of other topics. The Simon Collection is a rich resource for researchers interested in the intersection between American culture and popular song.

Papers of Representative Baron P. Hill

This collection includes various miscellaneous papers of Baron Hill, Democratic representative of Indiana's 9th Congressional district from 1999-2004 and 2007-2010.

Historic Homes of Southern Indiana Photo Archive

The Historic Homes of Southern Indiana Photo Archive is a collection of MLS (Multiple Listing Service) Listings from the 1960's and 70's that were discovered in a real estate office in the early 2000's. The print photographs are available in the IU Southeast Library Archives, and the  is available online.

Social Justice & Diversity Collection

The is a growing collection of children’s, young adult, and adult titles that focus on social justice issues and feature a diversity of perspectives. The collection was dedicated to the memory of Breonna Taylor on Monday, February 7, 2022 and was conceived by Mr. James Wilkerson, Office of Equity & Diversity and was coordinated in the Library by Ms. Courtney Block, Associate Librarian, Coordinator of Outreach & Engagement. It is located on the Library's main floor, in the browsing collection area behind the Library's Service Desk.

Davis Floyd and Southern Indiana at the Crossroads of America in the Early 1800's and Floyd's Florida Connection, is full of information, stories, and intriguing investigations into accounts of connections with Queen Elizabeth I, Napoleon Bonaparte, Pocahontas, Aaron Burr, and others.

Author, Ernest W. "Bill" Smith, of New Albany, Indiana, has turned his years of historical and genealogical research into a new book on the life of Davis Floyd. He offers it here for the casual researcher, professional historian, and interested reader.
